Harvey J. Parish, 82 of Whiting, passed away Saturday, March 24, 2018 at the St. Margaret Mercy Healthcare Center, Hammond. He is survived by his beloved wife of 39 years, Mary Ann (nee Brandt); loving father of Timothy (Tammy) Parish and Thomas Parish; cherished Papa of Ashley, Benjamin, Jacqueline, Abigail and Erica; dearest brother of James (Ruby) Parish; dear brother-in-law of Anne Brandt and Patricia Brandt; proud uncle to many nieces and nephews and his precious feline companions, “Blackie”, “JR” and ‘Puff”. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ophie (late Lofton) Traywick and Betty (late Roy) Barton.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 30, 2018 at 10:00am at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting, with the Rev. Eduardo Malagan, officiating; interment to follow at St. John Cemetery, Hammond; visitation at the funeral home on Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00pm.
Harvey Parish was born on July 31, 1935 to Alfred Harvey and Oda Lee (Hammette) Parish and was a longtime resident of Whiting. He was a member of St. Casimir Church, Hammond and the Knights of Columbus, Pope John XXIII Council, 1696 of Whiting (prayers Thursday at 6:00pm). Harvey loved car racing. He had been a drag racer and enjoyed NASCAR. He played football, was a Golden Glove Boxer and was the manager of the “Harvey Wallbangers” (adult men’s softball team) for 20 years. He was a retiree of the Allis-Chalmers Co., Harvey, IL with over 20 years of service. Devoted to his family, Harvey will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
