Gary A. Franklin, 68 of Whiting, passed away Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at St. Catherine Hospital, East Chicago. He is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Ann Marie (nee Ruzbasan); loving father of Carrie (James) Pasko and Anthony Franklin; cherished grandpa of Holly, Michael and Rachel Pasko; brother of Patricia (Larry) Howey and William (Jan) Franklin; brother-in-law of Anthony (Susan) Ruzbasan, Victoria (Jay) Lockridge, Stephan (Laura) Ruzbasan, Richard (Millie) Ruzbasan and Suzanne (Jeff Lindsey) Ostrozovich; many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Mass will be offered on Saturday, March 7, 2020 at 10:00am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 119th Street and Lincoln Avenue, Whiting with the Rev. Mark R. Peres, C.PP.S., officiating. Friends are invited to meet with the family at the church on Saturday from 9:00am to time of services. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th Street, Whiting.
Gary Franklin was born on August 26, 1951 in Gary, Indiana to William and Helen (Koldus) Franklin. He was a graduate of William A. Wirt High School, Gary, Class of 1970 and was a lifelong resident of the Calumet Region. He was a US Army Veteran of the Viet Nam Conflict and a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting. An avid Chicago Cubs fan, Gary enjoyed collecting baseball cards, bowling and was an excellent artist. He especially enjoyed drawing caricatures. A retiree of the Inland Steel Company, East Chicago with a service of 30 years, Gary was a member of the USW Local 1010 and was also a former City of Whiting Crossing Guard. Devoted to his family, Gary will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Please omit flowers.
