Frank J. Balind, 66 of Whiting, passed away peacefully on the morning of Monday, October 2, 2023 at his residence. He is survived by his beloved wife, Susan (nee Jansky); loving father of Jim and Joe (fiancée, Ashley); adoring grandpa of Makenzie, Makenzie’s mother, Sheri Barnes; cherished brother of Cathy Ziolkowski, Nancy Jacobson, Rich (Peggy) Balind and Mike (Chris) Balind; dear uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th Street, Whiting, Indiana. Abiding by Frank’s wishes, there was no visitation or services. Expressions of sympathy may be placed on-line at www.baranfh.com.
Frank Balind was born on March 7, 1957 to Frank and Anne (Traywick) Balind. A lifelong resident of the Whiting-Robertsdale Community, he was a graduate of George Rogers Clark High School, Class of 1975. He spent his entire working career (45 years) in the steel industry, currently employed as a supervisor for Cleveland Cliffs, East Chicago (hats off to longtime work buddies, Tom, Carlos and Dino). He enjoyed fishing in northern Wisconsin and Minnesota, hockey and baseball and had coached for Whiting Little League and Whiting Post 80 Baseball, but above all he loved hanging out with his only grandchild, Makenzie. Devoted to his family, Frank will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Whiting Little League or the Whiting “Gimme Shelter” (for pets), P.O. Box 591, Whiting, IN 46394, would be appreciated.
