Ellen L. (Peterson) Sopcich

Ellen L. Sopcich (nee Peterson) 69 of Whiting passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, surrounded by her most cherished family, at her residence. Loving mother of Brian (Laura) Sonaty, Jennifer (Robert) Fraga and Lisa (Phil Rymus) Sopcich; adoring grandmother of Joseph Sonaty, Cameron Thornton, Ryan Fraga and Aiden Fraga; dearest sister of William (Julie) Peterson.

A memorial visitation will be held at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th Street, Whiting, IN on Monday, February 24, 2025 from 5:00p.m. to 7:00p.m.; private interment of cremains, Beverly Cemetery, Blue Island, Illinois. Expressions of sympathy may be placed online at www.baranfh.com.

Ellen Sopcich was born on December 9, 1955 to Edward and Ida “Gerry” (Holman) Peterson. She was a graduate of Whiting High School, Class of 1973 and was a retiree of the United States Postal Service with a service of 24 years. Ellen was a nature enthusiast, watching eagles, birds, butterflies and appreciating flowers. She enjoyed watching her brother Bill’s softball games and her grandson’s sports games. Devoted to her family, Ellen will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Whiting “Gimme Shelter” (for pets), would be appreciated.
