Don Kaminsky was born on November 6, 1940 to Andrew and Julia (Dvorscak) Kaminsky and was a lifelong resident of Whiting. He was a devoted member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and began his working career at the St. John Parochial Center. As a self-made man, he became a mechanical and electrical genius.  He worked his way up the ladder to become
Electrical Foreman at American Maize (Cargill) for 23 years.  He then went to Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago as the Engineering Facilities Manager for 10 years. After retiring from Michael Reese, came back full circle to proudly serve as Facilities Manager at his home parish of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and School for another 17 years. Don loved to work.  He served as the neighborhood “handy man” and was always willing to lend a hand wherever needed.  As an avid baseball fan, the Chicago White Sox were his all-time favorite team.  In addition to watching baseball, he played throughout his youth and went on to serve as a coach for the Robertsdale Little League for many years. Don loved to play his accordion and frequently appeared in the parades at Pierogi Fest.  He was also a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, Court 1325. Devoted to his family, Don will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 1849 Lincoln Avenue, Whiting, IN 46394, would be appreciated.
