We are sad to announce the passing of Dave “Reds” Bhagwandin of Merrillville, Indiana. He died at the age of 86 on June 15th at his home surrounded by family. Born on the Island of Trinidad and Tobago. One of 5 siblings, he worked as a bookkeeper and owned his Independent taxi service during his younger years. Dave enjoyed life on the Island. Culture, music, Bollywood movies, gardening and singing were some of his great joys. In 1990, Dave migrated with his family to the United States. While living the American Dream, he worked at the Art Institute of Chicago. There he found a new love for the arts! After devoting over 20 years to the Art Institute he retired. He enjoyed retirement with his loving wife, his children and grandchildren. He traveled many times to his homeland.
Dave is survived by his loving wife Dolsie Bhagwandin; his children, Bina B Maharaj (Bob Allard), Saraswati B Maharaj (Jai Mahabir), Omatie B Maharaj, Sham Bhagwandeen (Asha), Vijantie Vanna Bhagwandeen, Kamini Sophie Bhagwandeen, Rajesh Bhagwandeen (Shevon), Nicole Vasquez (Armando), Indira Dinga (Timothy), Nadira Parker (Donnie), Heidi Gibson (Kenny), Robbie Bhagwandeen, Artie Tadic (Zjelko); his brother, Harry Bagwanedee; sisters, Maywantee Ortiz and Kathy Bhagwandeen; 14 grandchildren, numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his father Bhagwandeen Maharaj, his mother Doolarie Maharaj, brother Sookram Bhagwandeen, daughter Indranie Bhagwandeen and grandson Rajesh Bhagwandeen.
The funeral will be a private ceremony with only his close immediate family. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th Street, Whiting, Indiana 46394
