Daniel J. "Dan" Arendas

Daniel J. “Dan” Arendas, 63 of Whiting, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 8, 2025 at the Community Hospital, Munster. Beloved son of Rose (Giorgio) Arendas and the late Steve Arendas; cherished brother of Steve (Susan) and James (Annette); dearest uncle of six nieces and nephews; dear great uncle of four great nieces and great nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 14, 2025 at 11:00am at St. Mary’s Assumption Byzantine Catholic Church, 2011 Clark St., Whiting, with the Rev. Andrew Summerson, officiating; interment, St. Nicholas Cemetery, Hammond; visitation at the church on Monday morning from 9:00am to time of services. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting. Expressions of sympathy may be placed on-line at www.baranfh.com.

Dan Arendas was born on September 4, 1961. He was a lifelong resident of the Whiting-Robertsdale Community and was a member of St. Mary’s Assumption Byzantine Catholic Church, Whiting. He was a graduate of George Rogers Clark High School, Class of 1979 and went on to earn his Bachelor and Masters Degrees from Indiana State University, Terre Haute. He was a retired administrator for the Lake County Juvenile Detention Center, Crown Point, with a service of 33 years and was an avid ornithologist. Devoted to his family, Dan will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the National Audubon Society, 225 Varick St., New York, NY 10014, would be appreciated.
