Cheryle Jean (Riggs) Powell

Cheryle Jean Powell (nee Riggs) 80 of Valparaiso, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 2, 2026 at Northwest Health – Porter. She is survived by her loving son, Ryan (Beth Sowa) Cogdill; adoring grandmother of Sydney Watts-Cogdill and Emmalin Cogdill; cherished sister of Kay Kapcak, Sandy Clark, Melvin Riggs, Roger Riggs, and the late Marvin Riggs and Milton “Charlie” Riggs; dearest aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2026 at 11:00am at the Whiting United Methodist Church, 1920 Clark St. at Community Ct., Whiting, IN with Pastor Bill Jones officiating.

Cheryle Powell was born on February 12, 1945 to Nelson and Caroline (Bergner) Riggs and was a longtime resident of the Whiting-Robertsdale Community. She was a graduate of Whiting High School, Class of 1964 and went on to become a licensed beautician in the State of Indiana, owning her own beauty shop for over 20 years. She loved the arts and often spent her time crocheting and drawing. Devoted to her family, Cheryle will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
