Charles G. Carter, 88 of Merrillville, formerly of Whiting, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 2, 2023 at his residence. He was the beloved husband of the late Mary L. (Lundsford) Carter who passed away February 27, 2023; cherished brother of Sue (Tom) Boland, Barbara (Tom) Vrabely and the late Stroud Carter, Mary Jane McNinch, Jo Bob Moore, Emma Cummings, John Carter, Ruth Moore, Elizabeth Johnson, Mildred Greer, Donald Carter and Helen Huntley; special niece, Beth Carter Hrabovsky; dearest uncle to many nieces and nephews; dear step-father of James (Barb) Long, Ramona (Kerry) Mitchell and the late Garry (Patty) Long; step-grandpa of Tamra, Allison, Matthew and Alexander Long, Winona (Ron) Noble Abuan and Gerald (Evelyn) Noble; step-great grandpa of four.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 13, 2023, with the funeral procession leaving at 10:00am from the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting, processing to Memory Lane Cemetery, Schererville for interment of cremains at 11:00am with military honors. Charlie Carter was born on April 19, 1935 at Falls of Rough, Kentucky to Wallace and Mary Ann (Tunstall) Carter. He was a graduate of Whiting High School and was a lifelong resident of the Calumet Region. He was a US Army Veteran of the Vietnam Conflict and was a retiree of the Globe Roofing Company, Whiting, with a service of 26 years. Charlie loved to play cards and was devoted to his family. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Parkinsons Foundation 200 SE 1st Street, Suite 800, Miami, Florida 33131, would be appreciated.
