Arthur Okerstrom, Sr., 91, of Whiting passed away Sunday, March 17, 2024 at Franciscan Health, Munster. He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Ann (nee Perhach); loving father of Art Okerstrom.; dearest brother of Roger (Karen) Okerstrom; many dear nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 22, 2024 at 12 noon at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235 119th St., Whiting with the Rev. Mark R. Peres, C.PP.S., of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting, officiating; Interment, St. John Cemetery, Hammond; visitation at the funeral home on Thursday from 4:00pm to 8:00pm. The St. John Rosary Society, together with members of the parish, will offer prayers at the funeral home on Thursday at 4:30pm. Expressions of sympathy may be placed online at http://www.baranfh.com.
Art Okerstrom was born on October 29, 1932 in Chicago, Illinois to Eric and Thyra (Peterson) Okerstrom and was a longtime resident of Whiting. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting and was a US Army Veteran. He was a retired tool and die maker for Chicago Wilcox Co., South Holland, Illinois with a service of forty years. He was an avid Chicago White Sox, Bears, and Blackhawks fan and enjoyed golfing. He was a proud member of the Pat’s Tap Bowling team. Art was a kind man who never had a bad thing to say about anyone. He was the best father and an even better husband. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. The Knights of Columbus, Pope John XXIII Council 1696 will offer prayers at the funeral home on Thursday at 7:00pm. (219) 659-4400.
