Anthony Dominiak Obituary

Anthony J. “Tony” Dominiak, 91 of Whiting, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 9, 2024 at St. Catherine Hospital, East Chicago. He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Mary Ann (nee Stofcik); loving father of Mark (late Roberta) Dominiak, Laurie (Joseph) Minor, Kathleen (Justin) Treasure and the late Peter Dominiak; cherished “Papa” of Hannah Rose (Eric) Lareau, Margaret Mary (Antoine Bouyer) Dominiak and Kieth Johnson Treasure; dearest brother-in-law of  Kathy (Bill) Twohig, Raymond Stofcik, Judy (late Dan) Hosken and Lori (late Peter) Stofcik; dear uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2024 at 9:30am at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting; a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting, with the Rev. Timothy McFarland, C.PP.S., officiating; interment, St. John Cemetery, Hammond; visitation at the funeral home on Friday from 4:00 to 8:00pm. The St. John Rosary Society will offer prayers at the funeral  home on Friday at 4:30pm. Expressions of sympathy may be placed on-line at www.baranfh.com.

Tony Dominiak was born on April 15, 1933 in Chicago, Illinois to Antoni and Mary (Mierzycka) Dominiak and was the youngest of 13 children, all who predeceased him. He was a graduate of Bowen High School, Chicago, Class of 1951 and a  64 year resident of Whiting. Tony was a parishioner of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting, where he had served as an usher and was a member of the former Holy Name Society (past president and secretary). He had often volunteered to serve as a pall bearer for families in need of help. A US Navy Veteran and had attained the rank of Gunners Mate. He was also a proud member of the American Legion, Whiting Post 80 (Memorial Service, Friday at 7:00pm) and the Knights of Columbus, Pope John XXIII Council 1696 (prayers, Friday at 6:00pm). Tony was a retiree of the Lever Bros. Co., Hammond, with a service of 38 years. He enjoyed reading nonfiction books, working crossword puzzles, astronomy, big band music, snuggling with his many furry friends and was an avid Chicago White Sox and Bears fan. Devoted to his family, Tony will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the St. John Church Capital Campaign, 1849 Lincoln Ave., Whiting, IN 46394, would be appreciated.
