Anna May Gerba (nee Bednar) 85 of Whiting, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 8, 2023 at her residence surrounded by her most cherished family, She was the beloved wife of 52 years to the late Joseph C. Gerba who passed away September 19, 2015; loving mother of Joseph (Mary) Gerba, James (Susan) Gerba and John Gerba; adoring grandma of Mikaela Gerba; dear sister of Pauline Bednar, Barbara (Joseph) Yurkanin and the late Mary Ann (Richard) Danko, Edward, George and Paul Bednar; many nieces and nephews and her canine companion, “Lia”.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday, December 12, 2023 at 10:00am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 119th St. & Lincoln Ave., Whiting, with the Rev. Mark R. Peres, C.PP.S., officiating; interment to follow at St. John Cemetery, Hammond; there was no visitation. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting. Anna May Gerba was born on November 27, 1938 to Edward and Anna (Seman) Bednar. She was a lifelong resident and a graduate of Whiting High School, Class of 1956. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting and was a retiree of the Liberty Savings Bank, Whiting, with a service of 20 years. She enjoyed watching the Bears, White Sox and Blackhawks. She was an excellent baker and enjoyed the occasional trip to the casino. Family time was most important to Anna May. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandma, she will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Kidney Foundation or to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting, would be appreciated.
