Ann L. Okerstrom (nee Perhach) 102 of Whiting passed away peacefully on the early morning of Tuesday, December 16, 2025 at St. Catherine Hospital, East Chicago. She was the beloved wife of 63 years to the late Arthur E. Okerstrom, who passed away March 17, 2024; loving mother of Art Okerstrom.; dearest sister of the late John (late Agnes) Dvorscak, Joe (late Ann) Perhach, Sophie (late John) Gresko and Helen (late Joseph) Mikula; many dear nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2025, 9:30am at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235 119th St., Whiting; a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00am at of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting with the Rev. Mark R. Peres, C.PP.S., officiating; Interment, St. John Cemetery, Hammond; visitation at the funeral home on Friday from 4:00pm to 8:00pm. Ann Okerstrom was born on February 5, 1923 in Whiting, Indiana to John and Susanna (Falat) Perhach. She was a lifelong resident and was a graduate of Whiting High School, Class of 1941. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting and the St. John Rosary Society. A devoted member of the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association, BR. 81 with whom she served as the financial secretary of Junior Branch, 58 for 35 years. She was a former employee of the Standard Oil Company and enjoyed crocheting, cooking, oil painting and sketching. Ann was the most devoted mother any one could be blessed with. She was hard working, a great role model and always put God and family first. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
