Alfonso E. Renda, 82 of Whiting, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 29, 2025 at Franciscan Hospital, Dyer. He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Ruth Ann “Bonnie” (nee Wozniczka); loving father of Andrea (Patrick) Gaynor, Patti Renda, David (Amy) Renda, Michelle (Don) Harbin, Greg (Stephanie) Renda; cherished grandfather of Meghan Gaynor, Avery Ryan, Ethan Harbin and Dominic Harbin; dearest brother-in-law of Bill Wozniczka, late Dennis (Martha) Woznicka, Tom (late Joan) Wozniczka and the late John Wozniczka; dear uncle of Julie (Mark) Kraft and Meredith Wozniczka; honorary grandpa of Beau and Calla Harbin; lifelong friends of Marsha and the late Paul Banik.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2025 at 10:30am at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting; a Mass of Christian Burial being offered at 11:00am at Sacred Heart Church, Whiting, with the Rev. Jay Nuthulapati, officiating; interment, St. John Cemetery, Hammond; visitation at the funeral home on Friday from 5:00 to 8:00pm; members of the parish will offer prayers at the funeral home on Friday at 6:00pm. Al Renda was born on July 1, 1942 to Alfonso and Elizabeth (Poznanski) Renda and was a lifelong resident of Whiting. He was a graduate of Whiting High School, Class of 1960 and was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Whiting. Al spent his professional career in the industrial supply sector with a service of 45 years. He enjoyed all genre of music and road trips to 240 national parks in all 50 states and to over 100 light houses. Al could be seen giving a friendly wave on his daily walks from lake to lake to lake in the Whiting-Robertsdale area. He was also an enthusiastic fan of his children and grandchildren at countless band and choral performances and sporting events. A devoted husband, father and grandpa, Al will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the SHARE Foundation for the Handicapped, P.O. Box 400.
