Thomas S. Hashu, 58 of Whiting, passed away Tuesday, July 4, 2017 at St. Catherine Hospital, East Chicago. He was the beloved son of the late William and Lorraine (Lubeck) Hashu; loving brother of James Hashu and Larry (Mary) Hashu both of Chesteron; cherished uncle of Nicholas Hashu and Jessica (Will) MacLean; dear Godparents, aunt Martha Witmer and uncle Eugene Parker; many cousins; dearest canine companion, “Toodie”.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 8, 2017, 9:30am at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting; a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting; interment, St. John Cemetery, Hammond; visitation at the funeral home on Friday from 4:00 to 7:00pm; parish wake service at the funeral home on Friday at 4:30pm.

Tom Hashu was born on December 12, 1958 and was a lifelong resident of the Whiting-Robertsdale Community. He was a graduate of George Rogers Clark High School, Class of 1977 and a retiree of the School City of Hammond with a service of 20 years. Tom was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting, the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association, BR. 81 and the Knights of Columbus, Pope John XXIII Council, 1696 (prayers Friday at 6:00pm). He was an avid Chicago Bears and Cubs fan. Devoted to his family, Tom will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the “Second Chance for Pets Nework” or the Whiting Food Pantry, would be appreciated.
