Roberta I. (Tenorio) Dominiak

Roberta I. Dominiak (nee Tenorio) 54 of Whiting, passed away peacefully on the morning of Wednesday, September 26, 2018 surrounded by her most cherished family at her residence. She is survived by her beloved husband of 29 years, Mark; devoted mother of Hannah and Margaret; loving sister of Sylvia (Michael) Planer and Rose Tenorio; dearest daughter-in-law of Anthony and Mary Ann Dominiak; dear sister-in-law of Laurie (Joe) Minor and Kathleen (Justin) Treasure; special friends, Tami, Lexy, Stella, Diane and Esther; preceded in death by her adoring parents, Napoleon “Polo” and Margarita Tenorio.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at 9:30am at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting; a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting with the Rev. Kevin M. Scalf, C.PP.S., officiating; cremation to follow; visitation at the funeral home on Friday from 3:00 to 8:00pm; parish wake service at the funeral home on Friday at 4:00pm.

Roberta Tenorio Dominiak was born on April 22, 1964 in Laredo, Texas. She was a longtime resident of the Whiting-Robertsdale Community and was a proud alumni of the Whiting High School Class of 1982. Roberta was a well accomplished ballet instructor in the Calumet Region. In 1984 she and her dear friend Stella Flores Waszak opened “Dance Etc.” in Whiting and  she continued teaching at the “Dance Connection” in Hessville until this past February. She had studied under Joel Hall and Homer Bryant at the Joel Hall Dancer & Center in Chicago. She enjoyed yoga, pilates, sewing and tending to her beautiful garden. Roberta was a volunteer at the Hammond-Whiting Care Center where she was also a Eucharistic Minister. She was devoted to her family, especially to the care of her elderly parents. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. The Knights of Columbus Pope John XXIII Council, 1696 will offer prayers at the funeral home on Friday at 7:00pm. Memorials to the Whiting Lions Club would be appreciated.
