Robert Emerson Helm, 95, of East Chicago passed away Thursday, August 24, 2017 in Delray Beach, FL. He was the beloved husband of the late Alice (Kordas) Helm; loving father of Robbie (Laticia) Helm; cherished grandfather of Ella Helm all of Delray Beach, FL; proud uncle to many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Mass will be announced in the future.

Robert Helm was born on March 24, 1922, the fourth of eight children born to Lester and Nellie (Collar) Helm and was a lifelong resident of the Calumet Region. Robert was a graduate of Hammond High School and was a member of St. Stanislaus Church, East Chicago.  He was a retiree of the American Steel Foundry, Hammond, with 30 years of service and the East Chicago Water Dept. with over ten years of service. Robert was a World War II Marine Corps Veteran, attaining the rank of Sergeant. He served in the Pacific Theatre and was the recipient of the Silver Star and the Purple Heart. He was a member and past commander of the American Legion Allied Post 369. A devoted father and grandfather, Robert will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Memorials to St. Stanislaus Church, East Chicago, would be appreciated.
