Raymond J. Pesenko, 90 of Crown Point (Winfield), formerly of North Hammond and Whiting, passed away peacefully on Sunday January 1, 2017 at the St. Anthony Medical Center, Crown Point, surrounded by his most cherished family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Donna (nee Cross); loving father of Sheryl L. (Randall) Floyd of Hebron and Ronald J. (Kimberly) Pesenko of Lakewood, IL; dearest brother of William (Susan) Pesenko of Chicago and the late Dorothy Pesenko and Richard Pesenko; dear brother-in-law of Carol Pesenko of Fishers, IN and Dolores (Donald, Sr.) Geffert of Schererville; proud uncle of many nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 5, 2017 at 11:00am, with a Mass of Christian Burial being offered at St. Elizabeth Seton Church 509 W. Division Rd., Valparaiso, IN, with the Rev. Douglas J. Mayer, officiating; interment, Graceland Cemetery, Valparaiso; visitation at the church on Thursday morning from 9:00am to time of services. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Baran Funeral Home, Whiting, IN.

 

Ray Pesenko was born on July 2, 1926 to Wasil and Ilona Pesenko. He was a lifelong resident of the Calumet Region and was a graduate of Whiting High School, Class of 1946. Ray was a member of St. Elizabeth Seton Church, Valparaiso and a former member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting. He was a WWII US Navy Veteran and was a member of the American Legion, Calumet Memorial Post 330 of Calumet City, IL. Ray was a retiree of the Amoco (BP) Oil Company with 38 years of service both at the Whiting Refinery and in Naperville. A very talented artist, Ray excelled at pencil, pen and ink and marker drawings. He enjoyed working on elaborate jigsaw puzzles and having them framed. Proud of his Slovak ancestry, Ray especially enjoyed traditional Slovak delicacies, especially holubki, palacinky and studzienina (pickled pigs feet). Devoted to his family, Raymond will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Elizabeth Seton Church, Valparaiso, would be appreciated.
