Ray Kaminsky was born on November 9, 1939 to Julius and Johanna (Strbjak) Kaminsky. He was a lifelong resident of the Whiting-Robertsdale Community and was a graduate of Bishop Noll High School, Class of 1957. Ray was a US Army Veteran and a member of the American Legion, Whiting Post 80 (Memorial Services on Thursday at 6:30pm). He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting, the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Assoc., BR. 452 and was a retiree of the US Steel Co., Southworks, Chicago with a service of 15 years. Ray loved his garden, riding his bicycle on the trails throughout Robertsdale and looking out for the widows of his neighborhood, running errands or shoveling them out after a snowstorm. Ray loved baseball. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and for over 50 years, spent countless hours coaching, managing and maintaining the Robertsdale Little League. He wanted to make sure every child, no matter what their ability was, was given the opportunity to play baseball. He was honored in 1998 when the complex was named for him. A devoted husband, brother, uncle and friend to many, Ray will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the St. John School Endowment Fund or to the Robertsdale (Lakeshore Cal Ripken) Little League would be appreciated.
