Paul R. Strabavy, Jr., 65 of Whiting, passed away Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at the Community Hospital, Munster. He is survived by his beloved wife of 22 years, Sheryl; loving father of Paul (Dana) Strabavy, Ryan (Elizabeth) Zurek and Kevin (Kim) Zurek; adoring grandpa of Sloane, Marlowe, Daniel, Matthew and Carly; cherished brother of Paulette (Gene) Bline and Barbara (Dennis) Smith; dearest uncle to many nieces and nephews; former wife, Donna Strabavy; dear son-in-law of Carmen (late Jim) Swanson; fond brother-in-law of Tim (Renee) Swanson, Karen (Paul) Paupore, Pamela (Dennis) Smart and Cynthia (Brad) Strehlow.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at 9:30am at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting ; a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting with the Rev. John E. Kalicky, C.PP.S., officiating; cremation to follow; visitation at the funeral home on Friday from 4:00 to 8:00pm; parish wake service at the funeral home on Friday at 4:30pm.

Paul Strabavy was born on April 28, 1951 to Paul, Sr. and Theresa Strabavy and was a lifelong resident of the Calumet Region. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting and was a graduate of George Rogers Clark High School, Class of 1969. Paul was a retiree of the Hammond Police Dept.. attaining the rank of Sergeant, with a service of 34 years. Paul loved being a police officer and was devoted to serving the people of Hammond. He was a member of the FOP, Lodge 51 and was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, Court 1325. A die-hard Chicago Bears fan, Paul’s greatest joy was watching his son play football. Devoted to his family, Paul will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Hammond Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 51, would be appreciated.
