Oscar L. Velez

Oscar L. Velez, 86 of Hammond passed away peacefully on the morning of Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at Franciscan Health in Munster. He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Eva (Ortega); loving father of  Oscar (Eileen) Velez, German Velez, Gustavo (Susan) Velez, Guadalupe (Brad) Buttliere, Guillermo (fiancée, Melinda Lopez) Velez, Antonio Velez, Alex Velez and Patty (Justin) Velez-Delgado; cherished grandfather of Peter, Nicholas, Adrian, Jack, Luisa, Samantha, Adam, Alec, Julian, Brian Dennis, and the late Erin Dennis; dearest brother of Judith Velez, Eduardo Velez, Sandra Velez Davila and the late Leonor Castro, Alma Velez Lopez, Antonio Velez Lopez; dear uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 18, 2019, 9:30am at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119^th St., Whiting; a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting with the Rev. Mark R. Peres, C.PP.S., officiating; cremation to follow; visitation at the funeral home on Sunday from 2:00 to 6:00pm; parish wake service at the funeral home on Sunday at 4:15pm.

Oscar Velez was born on August 8, 1933 in Doctor Arroyo, Nuevo Leon, Mexico to Antonio and Guadalupe Velez and was a resident of Hammond for the past 50 years. He enjoyed boxing and was a retired truck driver. A devoted husband, father and grandpa, Oscar will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, memorials to American Diabetes Association, would be appreciated.
