Nicholas Michael “Nick” Plesha, Jr., 80, a longtime resident of Crown Point, passed away at his home in New Smyrna Beach, FL on Tuesday, January 3, 2017. He is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years, Linda (Will-Koester) Plesha; loving father of Michael Plesha, Jeniffer Plesha, Cynthia (Thomas) Colvin and Kristine (William) Greer; dear step-father of Brad (Kari) Koester, Keith (Liz) Koester and Craig Koester; cherished grandfather of Andrea, Krill, Monica, Jessica, Curtis, Lakin, Ian, Will, Pierce, Cole, Emily, Chase, Kai, Logan, Layne and Gabe; adoring great grandpa of Harrison and Skylar; the mother of his children, Frances (Troksa) Plesha; dearest brother of Dennis “Giz” (late Darlene) Plesha and the late Eugene Plesha; fond son-in-law of Dolores (late Vincent) Will; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers and sisters-in-law.
A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday morning, January 21, 2017 at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting from 9:00am to time of prayers at 11:30am. A Memorial Mass will follow at 12 noon at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting with the Rev. Mark Peres, C.PP.S., officiating.
Nick Plesha was born on June 26, 1936 to the late Nicholas Plesha and Angeline (Kowandy) Plesha Przybyla and was also preceded in death by his step-father, John Przybyla. He was a graduate of Whiting High School, Class of 1954 and was a US Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict attaining the rank of Master Sergeant. Nick was a member of the American Legion, Lowell Post 101. He spent his entire professional career in the grocery industry, was an avid fisherman and enjoyed a good round of golf. Devoted to his family, Nick will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
