Marlene Frances Rancich (nee Seto) 75 of Whiting,, passed away Thursday, April 27, 2017 at her residence. She was the beloved wife of the late Milan “Moose” Rancich who passed away October 16, 2011; loving mother of Marisa (Michael Rowden) Roman and the late Melena Cercone; cherished grandmother of Stephanie Rancich, Brian (Kayla Perez) Rancich, WFD, Evan (Kayla Kaczmarzewski) Roman, Lia (Steve Frei) Cercone, Nicolas Cercone and Irena Cercone; adoring great grandma of Kaiden and Kameron Rancich and Sophia Cercone; dearest sister of Steve (Linda) Seto and Linda (Gene) Sbalchiero; many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 1, 2017 at 8:00pm at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting with the Rev. John E. Kalicky, C.PP.S., officiating; cremation to follow; visitation at the funeral home on Monday from 4:00pm to time of services.
Marlene Rancich was born on June 18, 1941 to Steven and Josephine (James) Seto. She was a lifelong resident of Whiting and was a graduate of Whiting High School, Class of 1959. She was the retired secretary to both City of Whiting Mayors Bercik and Stahura with a service of 22 years. Marlene was an officer in the Whiting Democratic Precinct Organization and a vice-precinct committee person beginning in the 1970’s. She was a member of the “Koffee Klutch” league at Towne House Lanes and was an exceptional bowler. Her hobbies included sewing, cooking, reading, watching sports, traveling, dancing and listening to music (especially her brother Steve’s bands through the years.) She was a dynamic, outspoken and lively woman who enjoyed making people laugh and enjoyed telling stories of her life. Marlene was devoted to her family and especially enjoyed the time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family would be appreciated.
