Margaret J. “Margie” Pilarcik (nee Smutniak) 88 of Whiting, passed away peacefully on the morning of Tuesday, February 21, 2017 surrounded by her two sons. She was the beloved wife of the late Bernard “Bud” Pilarcik who passed away December 24, 1993; loving mother of Bernie and Mike Pilarcik; dearest sister of Edward (Cathy) Smutniak, James (Terry) Smutniak and the late John Smutniak,, Mary Piskac, Anne Jarosz, Theresa Mulholland, Frank Smutniak and Jenny Frenchik; dear sister-in-law of Ray Mulholland; proud aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2017, 9:30am at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting; a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting with the Rev. Mark R. Peres, C.PP.S., officiating; cremation to follow; visitation at the funeral home on Friday from 5:00 to 8:00pm; parish wake service at the funeral home on Friday at 5:30pm.

Marge Pilarcik was born on born on July 11, 1928 to John and Theresa (Baliga) Smutniak and was a lifelong resident of the Whiting-Robertsdale Community, She was a  member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting and was a graduate of George Rogers Clark High School, Class of 1946. A local artist, Marge was a very talented oil painter and most noted for her award winning pressed flower pictures. She was a member of the Lacare Art League, participating in many shows at Morton High School, Hammond. She was an excellent cook and baker and enjoyed gardening. Devoted to her family, Marge will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. A special “Thanks” goes to the hard-working staff at the St. Anthony I.C.U. department for making Marge’s final hours pleasant and comfortable.
