Leo S. Ubik, 90 of Whiting, passed away Monday, February 6, 2017 at the Community Hospital, Munster. He was the beloved husband of the late Ruth E. Ubik (nee Luptak); loving father of Michael Ubik of Florida, Sheila (Mark) Kobli of Whiting, James (Jeani) Ubik of Kokomo, IN,  and Elizabeth (Henry) Bugajski of Munster; cherished grandfather of Jennifer (Dan) Harris, Michelle and Matthew Kobli, Lauren and John Bugajski, Ashley and Katie Ubik; adoring great grandpa of William, Brooklyn, Autumn, Violet, Claire, Quinn and Joey; dear brother-in-law of Frances (late John) Luptak; proud uncle of many nieces and nephews and his canine companion "Carter". He was also preceded in death by his brother, Edward Ubik and three sisters, Helen Kozol, Lottie Kurtianyk and Frances Stan.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 10, 2017 at 11:00am at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting with the Rev. Charles W. Niblick, officiating; interment, Concordia Cemetery, Hammond; visitation at the funeral home on Thursday from 3:00 to 8:00pm.

Leo Ubik was born on September 9, 1926 in the Hegewisch neighborhood of Chicago to Peter and Sophie Ubik and was a resident of Whiting for the past 66 years. He was a retiree of the American Maize Products Co. (Cargill), Hammond with a service of 25 years and was a WWII Navy Veteran. He enjoyed fishing and excelled at woodworking. Leo loved his family dearly, especially the time spent with his grandkids. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Humane Society of the Calumet Area, would be appreciated.
