Katherine A. "Kata" (Pavlovic) Wiening

Katherine A. “Kata”  (nee Pavlovic) Wiening, 93,of Whiting, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at the Munster Med-Inn. She was the beloved wife of the late Elmer G. Wiening who passed away March 1, 1988; loving mother of Cathy (Phil) Pena; cherished grandmother of Megan (Matthew) Pratt, Katie Pena, Philip James Pena and Alan Pena; adoring great grandma of Michael and Lillyn Pratt; dearest sister of Stephen (late Beverly) Pavlovic and Theresa (late Joseph) Olszewski, dear aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at 12 noon at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting with the Rev. Mark R. Peres, C.PP.S., of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting, officiating; private interment at St. John Cemetery, Hammond. Visitation at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 9:00am to time of services.

Katherine Wiening, born Kata Pavlovic in Lekusje, Croatia on August 4, 1926 to Martin and Roza (Tucak) Pavlovic and immigrated to the United States at the age of two. She was a resident of the Whiting-Robertsdale Community for the past 91 years and was a graduate of George Rogers Clark High School, Class of 1944. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting, the Croatian Fraternal Union and the Whiting-Robertsdale Historical Society. “Kata” had quite the memory of her life in Whiting and enjoyed sharing her stories. She loved to knit and do needle point, was a passionate hobbyist historian, and had served on the Class of 1944 reunion committee.  An avid traveler, she particularly enjoyed her visits to Mackinac Island, Michigan.  A devoted wife, mother and grandma, “Kata” will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Nazareth House, East Chicago or to the Whiting Park Festival Orchestra would be appreciated
