Joseph P. Zahorsky, age 83 of Whiting passed away Sunday, July 9, 2017 at the Community Hospital, Munster. He was the beloved husband of the late Janet P. (Comstack) Zahorsky who passed away January 9, 2012; loving father of Joseph (Mary Ranta) Zahorsky, Timothy (Tina) Zahorsky and Cathy (Rich) Sobilo ; cherished grandfather of Amanda (Bryce Long) Zahorsky, Joseph (Laura) Zahorsky, Elena and Alex Sobilo, Mallory, Hunter and Nolan Zahorsky; adoring great grandpa of Robert Joseph and Amelia; dearest brother-in-law of Alice Comstock; dear former daughter-in-law, Teresa Zahorsky; fond uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, George and John and four sisters, Ann Stahura, Mary Labus, Bettie Stahura and Helen Loera.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 13, 2017, 9:30am at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting; a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00am at St. Adalbert Church, Whiting with the Rev. Mark R. Peres, C.PP.S., officiating; cremation to follow; visitation at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00pm; wake service at the funeral home on Wednesday at 4:30pm.

Joe Zahorsky was born in Whiting, Indiana on February 2, 1934 on Schrage Avenue to George and Anna Zahrosky. He was a lifelong resident and a graduate of Whiting High School. He was a member of the former Immaculate Conception Church, Whiting and the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Assoc., BR. 452. Joe was a retiree of Federated Metals with over 30 years of service. He enjoyed all sports and was an avid bowler. He loved baseball, coaching for the Whiting Little League for over 25 years (The Whiting FOP Team) and was a devout New York Yankees fan. Devoted to his family, Joe will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
