Joseph M. Spilly

Joseph M. Spilly, 81 of Whiting passed away Saturday, July 14, 2018 at the Community Hospital, Munster, following a courageous five year battle with cancer. He was the beloved son of the late Joseph M., Sr. and Tillie (Bendis) Spilly; cherished brother of Richard (Nancy) Spilly and the Rev. William V. Spilly; proud uncle of Karen (Henry) Shahinian, Christopher (Jennifer) Spilly and Stacey Spilly; great nieces, nephews and many cousins.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 20, 2018, 9:30am at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting; a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting with the Rev. William V. Spilly, officiating; interment to follow at St. John Cemetery, Hammond; visitation at the funeral home on Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00pm.

Joe Spilly was born on September 18, 1936 and was a lifelong resident of the Whiting-Robertsdale Community. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting, was a graduate of George Rogers Clark High School, Class of 1954 and was a United States Marine Corps Veteran attaining the rank of corporal. Joe was member of the Roosevelt Club and Ducks Unlimited. He was a licensed dog trainer and judge for canine competitions and enjoyed fishing and nature. He was a retiree of the Amoco (BP) Whiting Refinery with a service of 15 years. Devoted to his family, Joe will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
