Irene Rose (Haluska) Michalic

Irene Rose Michalic (nee Haluska) 96 of Dyer, formerly of Whiting, passed away peacefully on the morning of Thursday, June 7, 2018 at Franciscan Health, Munster. She was the beloved wife of the late John S. Michalic who passed away August 28, 1990; loving mother of Mary Louise (Robert) Steinway; cherished grandmother of Christopher (Brenna) Steinway; adoring great grandma of Anne Steinway; dearest sister of Sue (Phil) Mateja and the late Andrew and John Haluska, Mary Sabol and Bessie Dembowski; dear  sister-in-law of Margene Haluska; proud aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 11, 2018 at 11:00am at the St. Paul EV. Lutheran Church, 118^th St., and Atchison Ave., Whiting with Pastor John Henry, officiating; interment to follow at Concordia Cemetery, Hammond; visitation at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119^th St., Whiting on Sunday from 2:00 to 6:00pm and at the church Monday morning from 10:00am to time of services; Devotional Service at the funeral home on Sunday at 5:30pm.

Irene Michalic was born on February 5, 1922 in Whiting, Indiana to John and Mary Haluska and was a graduate of Whiting High School, Class of 1940. She was a devoted member of the St. Paul EV. Lutheran Church, Whiting where she participated with the Dorcas Society, the L.W.M.L. (whom she made countless quilts for) and sang with the church choir. Irene had also participated with the Whiting Centennial Chorus and the Whiting Park Festival Orchestra Chorus. She was a retiree of Graver Tank, East Chicago and had also worked for the Haluska Trucking Co. and Haluska Fuel Oil for many years. She loved to bake and work in her garden. Devoted to her family, Irene will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the St. Paul EV. Lutheran Church, Whiting or to the Humane Society of the Calumet Area, would be appreciated.
