Welcome to the memorial page for

Geraldine "Geri" M. (Potter) Basiaga

September 22, 1946 ~ November 8, 2017 (age 71) 71 Years Old

Geraldine M. “Geri” Basiaga (née Potter), age 71, of Whiting, IN passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at her home in Whiting. She will be forever remembered by her beloved husband of 50 years, Edward; loving mother of Larry (Ellen), Nicholas, and Michael Basiaga; adoring grandma of Jackson and Nathaniel; cherished sister of Jeanne (Alfred) Scherner and the late Eleanor Stevenson; proud aunt of many nieces and nephews; friend of her neighbors, all in her community and throughout the U.S.

Geri Basiaga was born on September 22, 1946 in Indiana Harbor, Indiana to William and Emily (Rumshus) Potter. She was a graduate of Washington High School, Class of ‘65, attended Calumet College of St. Joseph, and was a lifelong Indiana resident. She worked as an Investment Associate for UBS Financial Services in Chicago and recently retired with over 30 years of service. A devout Catholic, she was a member of Sacred Heart and St. John the Baptist Catholic Churches in Whiting.

Geri cherished her family and enjoyed every moment with them.  A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, her family was her life and she was involved in every aspect of it. Her everlasting love, guidance and faith carries on in everyone she touched.  She loved music and enjoyed traveling.  Bloomington, Indiana and Key West, Florida were among the places she loved most. She also loved gardening and had quite the green thumb. Birds of Paradise were her favorite flowers.

An angel to us all, Geri will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. As she often said, “Remember, if God brings you to it, He will bring you through it!” A private service and celebration of her life was held with family on Sunday, November 12.  In lieu of flowers, memorials in Geri’s name, supporting her cherished beaches and oceans, can be made to the Surfrider Foundation (https://www.surfrider.org/mission) and would be greatly appreciated. “Forever Love” ~ Mama G.
