Frank M. “Satch” Murzyn, 78 of Whiting, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 18, 2017 at the home of his daughter. He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Judy (nee Ulm); loving father of Melissa (Tom) Shebish, Mark (Tina) Murzyn, Richard Murzyn and Craig Murzyn; cherished grandfather of Jake, Nicholas and Grace Shebish, Crystal Murzyn and Brittany (Gio) Perez; adoring great grandpa of Malik and Madison Serrano and Julianna Perez; dearest brother of Greg (Phyllis) Murzyn and Barbara (Bob) Punak; proud uncle of many nieces and nephews and his devoted canine companion, “Satchmo”.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 22, 2017, 10:00am at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting; a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting with the Rev. Mark R. Peres, C.PP.S., officiating; entombment, St. John Cemetery, Hammond; visitation at the funeral home on Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00pm; parish wake service at the funeral home on Thursday at 4:30pm.
Satch Murzyn was born on March 5, 1939 in Whiting, Indiana to Frank and Ethel Murzyn and was a lifelong resident. He attended Whiting High School and was a US Navy Veteran. He had been a member of Amvets Post 64 and the Whiting Loyal Order of Moose. Satch was a retiree of the Amoco Oil (BP) Whiting Refinery with over 30 years of service and was a retired city electrician for the City of Whiting with 16 years of service. He was a member of the Whiting Democratic Organization for over 50 years and was a precinct committeeman. Devoted to his family and his community, Satch will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
