Elwood Ray Whitney, Sr., 91 of Whiting, passed away peacefully on the afternoon of Monday, February 18, 2019 at Franciscan Health (St. Margaret Hospital), Hammond. He is survived by his beloved wife of 29 years, Nancy (nee Talabay); loving father of Dale Ray Whitney, Phyllis Whitney, Michael Whitney, Elwood Ray “Chip” Whitney and the late Ron Whitney; cherished step-children, Victor Crocker and Deanne Hathaway; adoring grandfather of Anabelle Whitney, Ava Mae Whitney, Makenzy Jordan Crocker, Austin James Crocker, Charles Hogan and Mya Hathaway; dearest brother of Barbara Sue (late Roger) Piper.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at 10:00am at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting with Pastor William Hall of the Whiting Baptist Church, officiating; interment to follow at St. John Cemetery, Hammond; visitation at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 9:00am to time of services.
Elwood Ray Whitney, Sr., was born on January 11, 1928 in Normal, Kentucky to Jake and Hattie (Parker) Whitney. He was a longtime resident of the Whiting-Robertsdale Community and a member of the Whiting Baptist Church. He was a WWII US Navy Veteran and a retiree of the American Sightseeing Company, Chicago.
