Elinore F. Vasilak (nee Yates) 94 of Whiting, passed away Sunday, September 10, 2017 at the Munster Community Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late Jack Vasilak who passed away August 5, 2013; loving mother of Peg Vasilak and the late Randy Vasilak; dear mother-in-law of Cathy Vasilak; cherished grandmother of John (Stacy) Vasilak; adoring great grandma of Jonathan and Emily Vasilak.

A Memorial Mass will be offered on Friday, September 22, 2017, 10:30am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 119th St. and Lincoln Ave., Whiting, with the Rev. John E. Kalicky, C.PP.S., officiating; interment of cremains immediately following at St. John Cemetery, Hammond. 

Elinore Vasilak was born on December 15, 1922 to James Mortimer Yates and Helen Elinore (Sacher) Yates and was a lifelong resident of Whiting. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting, the St. John Rosary Society and the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Assoc., BR. 81. Elinore had worked in retail for many years at the Jack & Jill Store, Whiting and at Rosalie’s in Hammond. She loved to shop, was an avid reader and especially enjoyed spending time in her garden, working side by side with her daughter, sharing their love of flowers. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Elinore will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the American Cancer Society would be appreciated.
