Bernice A. (Wilk) Bercik

Bernice A. Bercik (nee Wilk) 99 of Whiting passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at St. Catherine Hospital, East Chicago. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph G. Bercik who passed away on August 21, 2002; loving mother of Georgene Miles, Jerry (Leslie) Bercik, Peggy Williams, Joe (Barbara) Bercik and the late Joann Johnson; cherished grandmother of Brian, Jason and Shannon Miles, Elizabeth Mikenis, Tony (Stacy) Bercik, Michael and Megon Williams, Becky Bercik Jones, Carrie (Randy) Briscoe and John (Lisa) Johnson; adoring great grandma of Hannah Miles, Olivia Dickerson, Joshlyn McGhee, Alexis and Brody Bercik, Sara and Erica Miles, Hailey and Leah Mikenis, Lars Briscoe, Trace and Jessica Johnson; dear great, great grandma of Michael Briscoe; many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Irene Bomba.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, May 5, 2018; 10:00am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 119th St., and Lincoln Ave., Whiting, with the Rev. Mark R. Peres, C.PP.S., officiating; cremation to follow. There will be no visitation..

Bernice Bercik was born on July 7, 1918 to John and Catherine Wilk. She was a lifelong resident of the Calumet Region and was a graduate of Hammond High School, Class of 1936. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting and the St. John Rosary Society. She enjoyed reading and working crossword puzzles. A devoted wife, mother and grandma, Bernice will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the American Cancer Society would be appreciated.
