Michael S. Skowronek, 74 of Whiting, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 24, 2024 at his residence. He is survived by his beloved wife and best friend of 22 years, Carolyn Lucas-Skowronek; loving brother of Susan (Donald) Pelka; cherished step-father of Tiffany Ryno, Christopher Szanyi and Maria (Ian) Robinson; dear step-grandpa of Javier, Benjamin, Sergio and Margot; dearest uncle of Annie (Christian) Carichner, Margaret Pelka and Elizabeth Pelka; fond brother-in-law of Andrea Lucas and Andrew Lucas.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, April 1, 2024 at 10:00am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 119th Street and Lincoln Avenue, Whiting, with the Rev. Mark R. Peres, C.PP.S., officiating; inurnment to follow at St. John Cemetery, Hammond; visitation at the church on Monday morning from 9:00am to time of services. Michael Skowronek was born on October 14, 1949 to Adam and Tilly (Szulczewski) Skowronek and was a longtime resident of the Hegewisch Neighborhood of Chicago. He was a graduate of Quigley Preparatory Seminary South High School, Class of 1967 and a earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree from the Calumet College of St. Joseph, Hammond. He was a member of the Calumet College Alumni Association and the Lions Club, Hegewisch. He was the Human Resource Manager for the Illinois Tool Works with a service of 15 years and enjoyed playing tennis, cycling and was a runner. Devoted to his family, Michael will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Calumet College of St. Joseph, 2400 New York Avenue, Whiting, Indiana 46394, would be appreciated.
