Lenore R. Lazur, 86 of Whiting, passed away peacefully on the morning of Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at St. Catherine Hospital, East Chicago. She was the beloved daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Gmitter) Lazur; loving sister of Therese (Robert) Boskovich, Joann (Edward) Bojda and the late Mary Janik, Margaret Fekete, Rev. Joseph Lazur, C.PP.S. and Br. Alec Lazur, OSB; cherished aunt to many nieces and nephews. With special thanks to her devoted caregivers, Ann, Jackie and Laura.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2024 at 9:30am at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting; a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting, with the Rev. Mark R. Peres, C.PP.S., officiating; interment, St. John Cemetery, Hammond; visitation at the funeral home on Friday from 3:00 to 7:00pm.The St. John Rosary Society, together with members of the parish, will offer prayers at the funeral home on Friday at 4:00pm. Lenore Lazur was born on October 15, 1937 in Wilkes-Barre, PA and was a longtime resident of the Whiting-Robertsdale Community. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting, the St. John Rosary Society and the Slovak Catholic Sokol, Wreath 81. Lenore was a member of the Oxford Dominican Religious Order for nineteen years and had dedicated her life to Catholic Education with a service of 47 years. She was a former principal of Our Lady of Perpetual Help School, Hessville, and had taught at St. John School, Whiting and at Bishop Noll Institute, Hammond. She retired as the Director of Religious Education at St. John Church, Whiting. She enjoyed gardening, needle point, cooking and baking (especially her pecan nut cups!). Devoted to her family and her church, Lenore will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting or to the charity of your choice, would be appreciated.
