William J. Jalovecky, 94 of Whiting, passed away Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at the William J. Riley Memorial Residence, Munster. He was the beloved husband of the late Josephine M. (Mravinac) Jalovecky who passed away October 8, 2016; loving father of Lorin (Heather Sterk) Jalovecky and
KathyJo (Stephen) Shay; dear brother-in-law of John Mravinac, Anne (late Andrew) Boer, Helen Mravinac and Dorothy (late Frank) Mravinac; nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph (late Marie) Jalovecky and Steve V. Jalovecky and three sisters, Sylvia (late Walter) Dostatni, Mary (late Lester) Boyd and Evelyn (late Michael) Banik.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2018, 9:30am at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting; a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting with the Rev. Stanley J. Dominik, officiating; interment, St. John Cemetery, Hammond; visitation at the funeral home on Friday from 4:00 to 8:00pm; members of the parish will offer prayers at the funeral home on Friday at 4:30pm.
Bill Jalovecky was born on January 3, 1924 to Joseph and Mary Jalovecky. He was lifelong resident of the Whiting-Robertsdale Community and was a graduate of George Rogers Clark High School, Class of 1942. He went on to receive his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education from the University of Houston and had also attended Slippery Rock College. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting, was a WWII, US Army Air Corps Veteran and a retiree of the LTV Steel Co., East Chicago with a service of 27 years. Bill loved baseball and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. He was also active with the Robertsdale Little League where he was a coach and had served as an umpire. He enjoyed working in his garden, bird watching and loved history and reading. A devoted husband and father, Bill will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Whiting “Gimme Shelter” for pets, would be appreciated.
