Virginia T. Kostyo (nee Pawenski) 93 of Whiting, formerly of Hessville, passed away peacefully on the morning of Sunday, April 09, 2017 at St. Catherine Hospital, East Chicago. She was the beloved mother of John Kostyo, Jr., of Elkton, MD and Garry Kostyo of Whiting; cherished grandmother of Shawn Kostyo of Elkton, Md; dearest sister of Stanley Pawenski and the late Jessie Tobias, Charlotte Skorupa, Casmier Pawenski and John Pawenski; many nieces and nephews. 

Virginia Kostyo was born on September 6, 1923 in East Chicago, Indiana to Peter and Katarzyna (Wilk) Pawenski. She was a lifelong resident of the Calumet Region and a member of the First United Presybterian Church of Hessville. A retiree of the School City of Hammond, Virginia was the head cook at the Morton High School Cafeteria in Hessville with over 20 years of service.  She was a devoted mother and grandmother who taught her children great and important values and was an excellent cook. Virginia will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. The family wished to thank Dr. Alfonso Blum and the dedicated staff of the Hammond-Whiting Care Center (where she had been a resident for the past nine years) for the compassion and excellent care that was provided to Virginia.

There was no visitation. Memorials to the Whiting Food Pantry, P.O. Box 591, Whiting, Indiana 46394 would be appreciated.
