Stephen J. Fusak, 87 of Whiting, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 12, 2017 at Sebo’s Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Hobart.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Norma (nee Srncik); loving father of Mark and Kevin; cherished grandfather of Alexander and Steven. He was preceded in death by his parents, Steve G. and Julia (Zuffa) Fusak and his brother, Elmer.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at 9:30am at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting; a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting with the Rev. Mark R. Peres, C.PP.S., officiating; interment, Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville; visitation at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00pm. The St. John Rosary Society, together with members of the parish will offer prayers at the funeral home on Tuesday at 4:30pm.

Steve Fusak was born on March 8, 1930 in Whiting, Indiana. He was a lifelong resident and a graduate of Whiting High School, Class of 1947. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict, attaining the rank of Corporal and was a member of the American Legion Calumet Memorial Post 330 of Calumet City (memorial service, Tuesday at 7:00pm). Steve was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting, the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Assoc., BR. 81, the Roosevelt Club, the American Slovak Club, and the Knights of Columbus, Pope John XXIII Council 1696 (prayers Tuesday at 6:00pm). He was an avid bowler and had participated with the K of C Wednesday Night League for many years. He also enjoyed golfing and a good round of poker. A former employee of the Standard Oil Whiting Refinery with over 10 years of service, Steve was a retiree of the Dial Corporation with over 20 years of service. Devoted to his family, Steve will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting, would be appreciated.
