Roman W. Murzyn, 92 of Schererville, formerly of Whiting, passed away Monday, December 25, 2017 at the Dyer Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was the beloved husband of the late Helen (Diacek) Murzyn who passed away March 8, 2011; loving father of Marilyn Warda and Michael (Brenda) Murzyn; cherished grandfather of Vicki (Glenn) Christensen, Melissa (Robert) Richter, Derek (Holly) Murzyn, Corey (Ashley) Murzyn, Kristen Murzyn and Kelsey Warda; adoring great grandpa of Luke, Wil, Madison, Everett, Ava, Elle and Yates; dearest brother of Jennie (late Casimir) Wojtena and the late Theda Tropsic, Bill and John Murzyn; many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 30, 2017 at 9:30am at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting; a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting with the Rev. Mark R. Peres, C.PP.S., officiating; cremation to follow; visitation at the funeral home on Friday from 3:00 to 7:00pm; members of the parish will offer prayers at the funeral home on Friday at 4:00pm.

Roman Murzyn was born on June 22, 1925 in Whiting, Indiana to John and Anna (Pokrajka) Murzyn. He was a lifelong resident of the Calumet Region and was a graduate of George Rogers Clark High School, Class of 1943. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting and was a WWII Army veteran attaining the rank of sergeant. Roman was a retiree of the Amoco (BP) Oil Company, Chicago with over 30 years of service. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan and enjoyed travel, especially to visit his grandchildren. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, Roman will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
