Robert L. Kish, 86, a longtime Whiting resident, recently of Munster, passed away Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at Franciscan Health, Munster. He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Mary (nee Gemer); loving father of David (Lupe) of Hammond and Sharon of Munster; cherished grandfather of Amber and Mary Markusic and Jeanine Kish; dear brother-in-law of Joan (Cliff) Purnell, Barbara (late Richard) Studzinski and John (Susan) Dahlkamp; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his brother John Kish and sister, Florence Gross.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 9:30am at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119^th St., Whiting; a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting, with the Rev. Mark R. Peres, C.PP.S., officiating; interment, Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville; visitation at the funeral home on Friday from 4:00 to 8:00pm. The St. John Rosary Society, together with members of the parish will offer prayers at the funeral home on Friday at 4:30pm.

Bob Kish was born on July 17, 1931 in Whiting, Indiana to Louis and Elizabeth (Popelas) Kish and was a lifelong resident of the Calumet Region. He was a graduate of Whiting High School, Class of 1950 and was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting. An Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict (three bronze stars, National Defense Service Medal and United Nations Service Medal), Bob was a life member of the VFW Walter Kleiber Post 2724. He was a retiree of the LTV Steel Co., East Chicago, with a service of 39 years. Bob was a kind, funny and simple man. He loved his Chicago Cubs, Wendy’s Chili and White Castle. A devoted husband, father and grandpa, he will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the VFW Walter Kleiber Post 2724, Whiting, would be appreciated.
