Rita A. Jacob, 73 of Whiting, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2017 at the Hammond-Whiting Care Center. She was the beloved daughter of the late Andrew and Amelia (Colotka) Jacob; loving sister of Marlene (late Stanley) Jancek and Daniel (Yvette) Jacob; cherished aunt of Jackie (Mike Janas) Jancek, Jeffery Jancek and Patrick Jancek.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at 10:30am at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting with the Rev. Mark R. Peres, C.PP.S., officiating; interment, St. John Cemetery, Hammond; visitation at the funeral home on Wednesday morning from 9:00am to time of services.

Rita Jacob was born on March 5, 1944. She was a lifelong resident of Whiting and was a graduate of Whiting High School, Class of 1963. She was a devout Catholic and a devoted member of the former Immaculate Conception Parish, Whiting, where she had served as the parish secretary under the late Rev. M. Fred Bach. Retired, Rita had been employed as a secretary for several businesses in downtown Chicago. Rita was a true animal lover and was devoted to her family. The family wishes to sincerely thank the Hammond-Whiting Care Center and the Dunes Hospice for the compassion and excellent care provided to Rita during her illness. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Whiting “Gimme” Shelter would be appreciated
