Paul N. “Skip” Kompier, 76 of Chesterton, passed away Friday, February 16, 2018 at St. Anthony Hospital, Michigan City. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 32 years, Pam Kaminsky Kompier; loving father of Jill (James) Knight, Michelle (Michael Sebalj) Kompier and Nicole (Jeff) Bateman; cherished grandfather of Paige and Trevor Knight, Gavin, Quinn and Everett Bateman; dearest brother of Tim (Laura) Kompier and the late Nels Kompier; dear son-in-law of Gloria Kaminsky; fond brother-in-law of Ron Kaminsky; nieces and nephews; canine companions, “Piper” and “Fuzzy”.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at 8::00pm at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting with the Rev. Stanley J. Dominik, officiating; cremation to follow; visitation at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4:00pm to time of services.
Paul was born on December 14, 1941 to Paul and Eirene (Papp) Kompier. He was a lifelong resident of the Calumet Region and was a graduate of Whiting High School, Class of 1959. Paul was a US Army veteran attaining the rank of sergeant, serving as a military policeman and was a retiree of the Elliott Company with a service of 17 years. Devoted to his family, Paul will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Whiting “Gimme Shelter” (for pets) or to Humane Indiana (Calumet Area Humane Society) would be appreciated.
