Margaret B. Uhrin (nee Derbis) 93, a resident of the Albertine Home of Hammond, passed away Saturday, November 26, 2016 at St. Catherine Hospital, East Chicago. She was the beloved wife of the late Dusan “Duke” J. Uhrin who passed away May 17, 2000. She was the loving mother of Elaine (Richard) Herrmann of Munster, Donald Uhrin of Carmel, IN, Robert (Elena “Georgette”) Vhrin of Aspen, CO and Judy (John) Vhrin-Mojzik of Chicago; cherished grandmother of Scott (Staci) Herrmann, Kristin (Dave) Ratz, Jennifer Uhrin, Nicole (Chad) Hobson and her special grandson Jason Uhrin who predeceased her; adoring great grandma of Kaitlyn Herrmann, Michelle (Tim) Shilling, Madeline and Charlotte Herrmann, Liam, Amanda and Nadia Ratz and Catherine Bradley; proud great, great grandma of Carter and Lilly Shilling; dearest aunt to many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her brother Albin (late Mary Lou) Derbis and sister Mary (late Joseph) Kusbel.

 

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at 11:30am at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting; a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 12 noon at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting with the Rev. Jerome P. Stack, C.PP.S., officiating; interment, St. John Cemetery, Hammond; visitation at the funeral home on Friday from 3:00 to 8:00pm. The St. John Rosary Society, together with members of the parish will offer prayers at the funeral home on Friday at 4:00pm.

 

Marge Uhrin was born on February 22, 1923 in Zborov, Slovakia to John and Susanna (Litecky) Derbis. She was a resident of the Calumet Region for the past 78 years and a graduate of Whiting High School. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting, the St. John Rosary Society, the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Assoc., BR. 81, the Daughters of Isabella, the Whiting-Robertsdale Senior Citizens Club and the Slovak Gymnastic Sokol, #269. Marge loved to knit, crochet and spend time in her garden. An active member of St. John’s she served as an extraordinary minister at the daily morning Mass and participated with the morning rosary group. She spent many hours helping to clean the church and maintaining vestments and altar linens. Marge enjoyed serving at St. John banquet parties and making pirohi. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she found great joy in spending time with her grandchildren, especially her great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Marge loved serving the Lord, her faith community and her family. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. In lieu of flowers, consider honoring Margaret with a donation to the kind sisters of the Albertine Home, 1501 Hoffman St., Hammond, IN 46327, who lovingly cared for her.
