Welcome to the memorial page for

Julia "Julie" D. (Puhek) Justak

February 13, 2013
Julia D. “Julie” Justak (nee Puhek) passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 from complications due to a stroke she suffered on Mothers Day, 2012. She was one month shy of celebrating her 93rd birthday. Julie was lifelong resident of Whiting and a graduate of Whiting High School, Class of 1938. She is survived by her sons, Terry (Jan), Ken and George; grandsons, Scott (Cyndi), Todd (Jenn), Ryan (Jodie), Jason (Kelly) and Brett (Lori); great grandchildren, Dorian, Christopher, Teresa, Lexi and Arden. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert; son, James (Barbara); brothers, Andy and Rudy; sisters, Mary, Anne and Theresa. Acclaim abound to the following for their untiring efforts that made mom’s journey a painless one: Debbie, for her aid and comfort; Laura, for her patience and understanding; the compassionate and  caring staff of Regency Hospital, East Chicago; Professional Care Home Health and especially Christie, Lisa and Julia.

Prior to her illness mom enjoyed daily rides through Whiting Park and the city (“George, you are driving too fast!”), bingo, “The Price is Right” and “Wheel of Fortune.” During the Harry Carey era, she enjoyed watching and attending Cub’s games. She always looked forward to seeing her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mom was a simple woman who never asked  much for herself, but was always generous to others. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Whiting, the Sacred Heart Rosary Society, the Whiting-Robertsdale Historical Society and the American Legion, Whiting Post 80 Women’s Auxiliary. Julie was a great mother, a friend to many and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

According to her wishes, private funeral services were held; there was no visitation.
