Joseph Miller Obituary

Joseph P. Miller, 87 of Whiting, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 12, 2018 at the Hammond-Whiting Care Center. He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Dorothy (nee Stofcik); loving father of Patricia (Dave) Howland, Susan (Scott) Cramer, Joseph (Angela) Miller and Nancy (Gus) Danielides; cherished grandfather of Jason (Brenda) Jendreas, Jaclyn (Ryan) Bentley, Nicholas (Ashley) Cramer, Ryan Cramer, Lindsay Alice Halik, Trevor Miller, Samuel Miller, Eric (Amanda) Curosh, Elizabeth (Jonathan) Lovasko and Alexandra Danielides; adoring great grandpa of nine; preceded in death by his brother Frank Miller.

Private funeral services were held, there was no visitation. His cremains will be interred at St. John Cemetery, Hammond. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting.

Joe Miller was born on March 4, 1931in Fair Point, Ohio to Joe and Anna (Rubicky) Miller and was a life long resident of the Whiting-Robertsdale Community. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting and was a US Air Force Veteran of the Korean Conflict attaining the rank of sergeant. Joe was a graduate of Whiting High School, Class of 1949 and was a member of the 1948 State Championship football team. He went on to receive his Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1966 and his Master of Arts Degree in 1972 both from Purdue University in Education. He was a retiree of the School City of Hammond, teaching Government and Economics at George Rogers Clark High School with over 25 years of service and was a member of the Hammond Retired Teachers Association. Joe was an avid woodworker and loved to create incredibly beautiful model wooden ships. Devoted to his family, Joe will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Vic Sahagun Scholarship Fund, 1242-119th St., Whiting, IN 46394, would be appreciated.
