Joseph G. Biel, 79 of Whiting, passed away Saturday, December 24, 2016 at the William J. Riley Memorial Residence, Munster. Loving father of Mark Biel of Arizona and Joseph Biel of Whiting; cherished uncle of Amy Biel, Jill Sandri and Thomas Biel; dear brother-in-law of Carol Biel; many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Estelle Biel and his brother Thomas Biel.

Private funeral services have been held.

Joseph Biel was born on October 2, 1937 and was a lifelong resident of the Whiting-Robertsdale Community. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting and was a US Army Veteran. Joe was a retiree of the Chicago Sun-Times and was the owner/operator of the former Parkway Service Station at 116th St. and Indianapolis Blvd., Whiting for many years.

He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. Devoted to his family, Joe will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. The family wishes to thank the staff of the William J. Riley Memorial Residence, Munster for their compassion and excellent care that was shown to Joe during his stay. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the St. John School Endowment Fund, 1849 Lincoln Ave., Whiting, IN 46394 would be appreciated.
