Jo Ann Sieman (nee Gwilt) 77 of Crown Point (Lakes of the Four Seasons), formerly of Whiting, passed away on Thursday, October 5, 2017 at the St. Mary Medical Center, Hobart. She is survived by her beloved husband of 55 years, Ron; loving mother of Lane (Kathryn), Shawn (Jeanine), Tim (Kelly), Scott, Jamie (Valeria) and Susan Barnhart; cherished grandmother of Alex (Sarah) Vrabely, Andrew (fiancée, Katie) Sieman, Max and Sam Barnhart, Michela and Cristian Sieman, Abbey and Emma Sieman, Kelton and Chloe Sieman; adoring great grandma of Alexandra Sieman; dearest sister of Clare Marie (late Lawrence) Merrild, Martha (late LeRoy) Cox and the late Gordon (late Janet) Gwilt; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 11, 2017, 9:30am at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting; a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting with the Rev. Mark R. Peres, C.PP.S., officiating; interment, Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville; visitation at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00pm; parish wake service at the funeral home on Tuesday at 4:30pm.
Jo Ann Sieman was born on June 10, 1940 in Dowagiac, Michigan to Clare and Marie Gwilt. She was engaged to Ron Sieman on Christmas Eve of 1961. They married on May 5, 1962 with a reception at Indian Lake, MI. The couple resided in Robertsdale most of their married life until retiring to Lakes of the Four Seasons. Jo was a retiree of the School City of Hammond, special education dept. with over 35 years of service. She was a volunteer at the St. Mary Medical Center (memorial service Tuesday at 5:30pm) and enjoyed all of her children’s and grandchildren’s sports and school activities. A devoted wife, mother and grandma, Jo will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. The Sieman family wishes to express their most sincere gratitude to the ICU staff at the St. Mary Medical Center, Hobart for all of the care and compassion that was given to Jo. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the St. Mary Medical Center Volunteer Program, the Special Olympics or to the American Heart Assoc. would be appreciated
