Janet C. Kompier (nee Czechanski) 74 of Whiting, passed away Sunday, February 19, 2017 at the St. Anthony Home, Crown Point. Beloved mother of Jill (James) Knight, Michelle (Michael Sebalj) Kompier and Nicole (Jeff) Bateman; cherished grandmother of Paige and Trevor Knight, Gavin, Quinn and Everett Bateman; dearest sister of Frank (Laura) Czechanski, John Czechanski and the late James Czechanski; special friend of Elaine Moskalick.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 24, 2017, 9:30am at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting; a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting, with the Rev. Mark R. Peres, C.PP.S., officiating; cremation to follow; visitation at the funeral home on Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00pm; the St. John Rosary Society, together with members of the parish will offer prayers at the funeral home on Thursday at 4:30pm.

Janet was born on August 9, 1942 to Frank and Josephine (Poremba) Czechanski. She was a lifelong resident of the Whiting and was a graduate of George Rogers Clark High School, Class of 1960. Janet was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting and the St. John Rosary Society. She was a retired secretary from the Lever Bros. Company, Hammond with over 25 years of service. A devoted mother, grandmother and sister, Janet always made family her priority. She will be remembered for the many lives she touched. She always listened to people, never left anyone out and put the needs of others before her own. Her kind and compassionate nature will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the St. John School, Endowment Fund, would be appreciated.
