Evelyn D. “Evie” King (nee Chapski) 90 of Whiting passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 25, 2016 at her residence. She was the beloved wife of the late Thomas J. King who passed away on April 21, 1991; loving mother of  Eileen (Scott) Howat, Maureen Ballay, Andrea (Dave) Matura, Dan (Mary) King and Tim King; cherished grandmother of Emily Ballay, David and Steven Matura, Bryan, Rachel, Patrick, Casey and Daniel King; dearest sister of Florence Chapski, Eugene (Lovie) Chapski and the late Emil Schultz, John Chapski and Robert Chapski; dear sister-in-law of Rita (Dave) Neth.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 29, 2016 at 9:30am at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting; a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting with the Rev. Mark Peres, C.PP.S., offiating; interment, Holy Cross Cemetery, Calumet City, IL; visitation at the funeral home on Sunday from 2:00 to 7:00pm. Members of the parish will offer prayers at the funeral home on Sunday at 4:00pm.

Evelyn King was born on December 15, 1925 in Chicago, Illinois to Jacob and Bernice (Nowak) Chapski and had been a resident of the Whiting-Robertsdale Community for the past 44 years. She was a graduate of South Shore High School, Chicago and was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting. Evelyn enjoyed going with family and friends to explore new bakeries. Her faith and family were her strength and support throughout her life. She was a truly wonderful woman who touched many with her kindness and generosity. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Leukemia-Lymphoma Society or the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation would be appreciated.
